Standardized Testing

Testing is an integral part of the educational experience, giving everyone an idea of how effectively the school is accomplishing at least one of its goals - academic excellence. While there is infinitely more to a CCA education than just testing, we do administer standardized tests throughout the grades, including, but not limited to the New York State Testing Program for English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science for fourth and eighth graders, and the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills for K-3 and 5-6 graders.

Seventh graders sit for the SSATs (Secondary School Admission Test). While many private school across the country use this as a basis for admissions decisions, CCA uses this as a diagnostic tool to assist faculty and administration in assessing student progress and identifying candidates for the Accelerated Program, which begins in 8th grade.

Eighth grade students take the National Latin Exam, and accelerated 8th graders have their first experience sitting for the Algebra and Earth Science Regents exams.

High school students sit for the NYS Regents exams, PSATs , SATs, and Advanced Placement exams. Results annually demonstrate CCA students exceeding local and national averages. Since 1999, at least one member of each graduating class has been named an “AP Scholar.”
