Congratulations to CCA’s boys varsity who, with their 66-49 victory over Stanley G. Falk School on 2/27, will once again compete in the NYS Independent League Tournament in Olean, NY March 11-13.
2/24/10 - 8th Grade Girls win Northtowns League Basketball Championship
with 20-16 victory over St. Christopher’s School. Congratulations, girls! The 5th grade boys basketball team advanced to the semi-finals with a 30-9 win over St. Gregory’s School. Congratulations, boys!
Austin Tom selected for Empire USA Soccer Team to compete in CASL Boys Soccer Showcase Series
CCA junior Austin Tom has been chosen as a member of the U16 Empire USA Select Team that will be competing in the CASL Tournament in Raleigh, NC, December 11-13, 2009. Austin has been one of CCA’s key soccer players throughout his high school career, helping this year’s varsity team reach the IAC playoffs. At the Raleigh tournament, the Empire USA team will play in 2 games Saturday and 1 game Sunday morning with winning teams advancing to the Championships later in the morning or early afternoon. During the last two CCA soccer seasons, Austin has accumulated a total of 42 goals (23 in 2008 and 19 in 2009). He has also been elected to the Independent Athletic Conference All-Star first team for the third year by a unanimous vote. Congratulations, Austin!
Crusaders Ladies Varsity Soccer Team ranked 2nd in Sportsmanship among all public and private WNY schools .
CCA’s varsity ladies soccer team was recently voted second top school in sportsmanship out of all public and private schools in WNY by the Board of Women’s Soccer Officials of WNY. The officials examined several facets of the activities of the teams (which included varsity, junior varsity and modified teams) at which they refereed, including but not limited to the overall behavior of players and coaches, how the players behave with the refs’ decisions concerning fouls, the players’ self-control in tense situations, even the nature of fan behavior. Coach Joseph Karnath commended his Crusader ladies for this honor. The team ended the 2009 soccer season with a 15-5 record, with 93 goals scored and 35 allowed from opponents.
CCA commends West Seneca Christian School for being named FIRST for the Sportsmanship Honor. Congratulations.
FALL SPORTS WRAP UP REPORT
Boys Varsity Soccer
A member of the Independent Athletic Conference, CCA’s boys varsity finished the season with a 14/3 record. In the IAC playoffs, CCA won the first round with an overwhelming 5-1 win over Cardinal O’Hara, with two goals scored by senior Cameron Tom. In the 10/29/09 championship game against Park School, played at the Gow School campus in South Wales, CCA fought hard through a double overtime game to bow in the final few minutes to Park with a final score of 3-2. Leading scorers throughout the season were Andrew Robinson, Austin Tom and Cameron Tom. The boys varsity team is coached by Mr. James Vandenberg (CCA, x’95), assisted by Mr. Donald Tom.
Girls Varsity Soccer
CCA’s lady Crusaders completed their inaugural season competing in the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association-south division, with a 7/3 record, with wins over Cardinal O’Hara, St. Mary’s of Lancaster and Immaculata Academy. Leading scores were Rachel Cook, Ruth Rissinger and Emelie Gidley. The girls varsity team is coached by Mr. Joseph Karnath, assisted by Mr. Tony Pariso.
Middle School Soccer (modified)
CCA’s middle school soccer team enjoyed big wins over Gow School, Nichols B team, and Park School, ending the season with a 6/6 record. Leading scorers were Ben Uttley, Ben Noel and Tahelah Noel. CCA’s middle school soccer team is coached by Mrs. Lesley Cook (CCA, ‘02).
Fall Baseball
- 4th - 6th graders “American” team completed a 7/2/1 season. The “National” team ended their season with a 5/5 record. Season highlight was the 20-10 win over St. Margaret’s School in which Tanner Gillis, Patrick Ranallo and Alec Tamburri hit consecutive homeruns. The 4th-6th grade teams are coached by Mr. Tom Ranallo and Mr. John Pieroni.
- 7th-8th graders, playing in the Buffalo Diocese’s Amherst South Conference, finished the seaosn with a 6/3/1 record. Season highlight was the 9-0 shut-out over St. Gregory the Great School thrown by Jimmy Martinic. The team is coached by Mr. Tom Rettinger and Mr. Tom Fry.
Flag Football
CCA’s new flag football team finished the seaosn with a 6/1 record, capturing first place in the Niagara Frontier Christian Athletic Association. Playoff action saw the team defeat the LEAH Bull Dogs 33-24. CCA’s flag football team is coached by Mr. John Mark Giamberdino.
