Art classes experience a new learning environment
ARTISANworks: On November 4th Advertising & Design and ILP Art students went on a field trip to ARTISANworks in Rochester, NY. The students got a tour of the gallery, watched videos on the history of Rochester and ARTISANworks, and observed an artist as he worked in his studio. We were able to view many rooms which included themes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Marilyn Monroe, the 1950’s, Victorian dining, and geometry. The students were able to see how a group of local artists work together and view a collection of visual and popular culture from the 1950’s to now. Their website is http://www.artisanworks.net/
Castellani Art Museum:
On November 17th the Drawing and Painting students went on a field trip to the Castellani Art Museum at Niagara University. We got a tour of the portrait exhibit which perfectly complimented the timing of portraits in the Drawing and Painting curriculum. All the students got an unexpected treat when painter Matthew Duquette was at the gallery giving a talk about his exhibit entitled Vessels. This was the favorite part of the field trip for many of the students. Last year in art, almost all of the students did a papercutting lesson. At the museum we were able to view some of the paper-cutting of Polish artist Alice Wadowski-Bak. The students loved this because we saw some of the works that we studied last year. We also observed the work of famous artists such as Lichtenstein, Picasso, Miro, Calder, Nevelson, and Warhol. The museum’s website is http://www.castellaniartmuseum.org/
