Jeanine Smyth Maier graduated from Christian Central Academy in 1991, marking the close of a chapter filled with learning, growth, faith, and cherished memories. She went on to Fredonia State, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in media and a minor in theatre arts.
From a young age, Jeanine had a passion for performing, which began with singing and dancing in her bedroom. Through her local church and opportunities at CCA, she was able to explore the stage—a journey that led her to Fredonia’s theatre program and involvement in numerous community productions. It was on the stage that she met her husband of 20 years, Peter Maier, a fellow actor and educator. Jeanine even fulfilled a personal dream by recording her own Christmas album, My Kind of Christmas.
Over time, she transitioned into television acting, landing roles in various commercials, infomercials, and even a guest appearance on the soap opera All My Children. Most recently, she has represented a local health insurance company as its Medicare spokesperson in both commercials and print ads. Acting has been a meaningful form of personal expression and a joyful part of her life.
Professionally, Jeanine also built a career in computer systems administration, blending her technical expertise with strong relationship-building skills. In her role, she serves as a liaison between technical teams and business users—a balance of communication and collaboration that has contributed to her success. She credits CCA’s academic rigor for helping to instill perseverance and discipline that became especially clear as she entered the workforce.
Several teachers at CCA left a lasting impression on Jeanine. Mrs. Franklin brought 8th grade English to life and turned vocabulary lessons into something memorable. Mrs. Frazita nurtured her critical thinking skills through literature analysis. Mr. Deone Drake deepened her faith through Bible class. And reflecting on Coach Tom’s energetic and spunky personality still brings a smile to her face.
But it wasn’t just the classroom experience that shaped Jeanine—it was also the friendships that stood the test of time. Among them was her beloved friend Amy DeWitt Mahaffey. Jeanine and Amy shared a close bond and affectionately referred to each other as “Forever Friends.” Though Amy has since passed, Jeanine continues to cherish memories of her warm smile, infectious laugh, and the light she brought to everyone around her.
The foundation of faith that CCA instilled continues to guide Jeanine’s life to this day. “It has played a pivotal role in my approach to challenges, relationships, and even the smallest decisions,” she shares. One verse that remains close to her heart is Matthew 7:24–25:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock... it did not fall because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Jeanine encourages current CCA students with two heartfelt pieces of advice:
First, “Allow your faith in Christ to be central in everything you do, using it as the lens through which decisions are made.” She reminds students that although life’s ups and downs can make faith feel like a journey of ebbs and flows, God is never surprised by our struggles. “He will always welcome you back with open arms, ready to use you for His greater purpose.”
Second, she challenges students to be intentional about their futures. “Coasting through school will not lead to professional success,” she notes. Jeanine urges students to reflect on their passions and talents, research career paths, and seek guidance from trusted mentors at CCA.
Looking back, Jeanine sees her time at CCA as more than a chapter of academic achievement—it was a season of encouragement, growth, and spiritual formation. “Reflecting on the many influences from CCA, I see a picture of a young person who was encouraged, challenged, and supported in ways that laid a foundation for success—not just in academics, but in life.”
Her final encouragement to current students:
“Strive for excellence, nurture meaningful relationships, and always walk in faith. Your journey is just beginning, and the best is yet to come!”
